A lot to be done! I don't think I will finish these in one setting.
Hello and welcome to my building blog! With this blog, I'll try to keep a diary of the building process of my own penny farthing bicycle. The goal is to have it ready by spring 2013 so I can take it out of the workshop on a nice and sunny day and take it for a ride in the city of Bruges. Please feel free to leave comments or questions. Since I don't have any previous experience with bike-building, it would be great to get some tips or simply hear from you...

Spokes
I picked up the 65 long spokes and the 25 short spokes today. I ordered a few more of each length just in case I screw some up.
I also picked up the little M3 round nuts to fit at the end of each spoke on the side of the hub.
A lot to be done! I don't think I will finish these in one setting.

Hi
ReplyDeleteI just took a look through your blog and it looks like you are making great progress so far, very nice looking rims and will look great once the English solid tyre is fitted. Glad you re thought your idea about using alloy in the front hub, everything needs to be made of steel to withstand the extra forces of pedaling such a big wheel. I look forward to seeing your progress.
Keep up the great work.

Hello Don!
DeleteThanks for your support. You're one of the people who inspired me to start this project. I hope I will get the bike to run eventually and yes: changing to alloy for the hubs was the right decision to make.
I haven't been able to do a lot the past week, mainly because I'm waiting for some tools I ordered which haven't arrived yet.
Cheers,
Filip
